4:00 deadline

Incumbent Candidate for council

4:00 deadline

Postby sharon » Wed Sep 30, 2009 1:19 am

Many people have been encouraging me to run for mayor but with Glenn having the multiplex parkade voters on board I thought my chances would be slim so I thought about Council instead. And why not? But the booklet from City Hall says you have to put up a $100.00 deposit. Then it said that the School Board trustees get 2 grand a year more than city councillors do. Which made me think about how important it is for society to have good people in charge of education for youth and that that might be more important than a parkade. And as many people have asked me to run for the School Board and only 5 others are doing so I think that my time serving the needs of this community can better be spent as a school goard trustee. School board candidates have to put up a $100.00 deposit as well which I'm hoping to borrow from someone so that I can move forward with my dream to be a school board trustee. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi sharon. As much as we'd like to help you out in this very positive and progressive project, fundraising in Moose Jaw seems to take a long time. We were taught earlier this year that all projects, no matter how big or small, work on the pledge system - or "virtual" donations. We could probably raise $300 by lunchtime and you could apply to the various boards and councils, but it would take 10 years for the virtual donations, or "pledges" to get the cash flowing in. Then again, sometimes they pour in right after an election.

Either way, I don't think you'll have a problem. The City has recently begun playing BANKER for several lousy fundraisers who only know how to collect "virtual" donations so I think they could probably fund your project as well.
Irresponsible news writers present only 1 side of a story.
The real Multiplex business plan is to suckle mama's teet until it runs dry, or she learns that the child is really 72 years old and needs to be booted out on their own.

Thank you to all my supporters who have called wondering why I didn't let my name stand for election. After much deliberation I have concluded that I can make a greater contribution to civic affairs by remaining a behind-the -scenes player who is impervious to the pressures an elected official faces. Not to mention my anger at the barriers a person must face in standing for elected office. Why should someone have to come up with $100.00 just to get on the ballot? Although someone with my fundraising expertise should have no trouble raising that kind of money what about all those wonderful people with great ideas who find themselves at a temporary financial disadvantage who are prevented from coming forward and getting elected?
