Tolmie's vision

Don't worry, there probably isn't much of a future with the attitude some bear. It will be within the lifetime of many on this board that the blue sky gang will be attempting to tear down the spa and the new Multiplex to make room for someones pet project. Build a new building, don't take care of it, then complain at 40 years that the building is too old and falling apart.
Irresponsible news writers present only 1 side of a story.
The real Multiplex business plan is to suckle mama's teet until it runs dry, or she learns that the child is really 72 years old and needs to be booted out on their own.

This statement implies we've been moving in a positive direction in the past and up until now.

What has taken place that you would have you say MJ moving in a positive direction?

Mosaic Place, Moose Jaw Ford Curling, FieldHouse, Mae Wilson/cultural center, Wakamow, Cresent Park, The Nat, Walmart, Safeway, Supertore, Boston Pizza, Winnipeg ,,, err Moose Jaw Warriors, RockPort, Thunder Creek Pork, Golden WestTrailers, Times Herald, CHAB Discover MJ.

Ya, I was hoping that Rocket9 was going to answer this from me, but it looks like the popular view between you two is that, for the most part, building is what constitutes MJ moving in a positive direction. I think that goes to prove my point. What a lack of consistency in some, hey?

Our taxes already go to pay for health care and the overpayed staff at the hospital. Want to see where you healthcare dollars are going. Go and sit in the waiting room and watch the people who are supposed to be sweeping and moping the floor. They spend a lot of their time just standing there and talking with other staff who happen to walk by. Talk about low-productivity. Perhaps her work load isn't heavy enough that she has time to stand around like that. Was in waiting room for 1 1/2 hours and with no tv to watch or magazine to read so I watched her. She stood for a total of 20 minutes in that 1 1/2 hours and then asked the last person, what time they were going for coffee! Are you kidding me, you had your break already. I assume she does this everyday.
what a waste of taxpayers money.

And there you go. One person (rocket9) sees progress in Moose Jaw as tearing down old buildings that they don't like, and another person (Doc) sees progress as building new buildings.

I'm confused. If we want to progress in Moose Jaw, which do we do? Or is progress not even tied to the building of a structure at all?

Al, are you saying that progress is "always staying the same". You're confused?? That's an understatement.

i guess if we want to be progressive for everyone we'd have to build something shiny and then tear it down. should please everyone. or make 50% of the people mad. what a land of opportunity moose jaw is.

Yup nothing like progress; throw the community into so much debt that it brings the affordability of even the smallest of future capitol expenditures into question, while at the same time create the greatest possible public riff imaginable, pitting neighbor against neighbor, , , , yup, in Moose Jaw they call that progress!

I think that when it comes to buildings, new, bigger and more modern is not always progress.

One only needs to look at a couple of other city recreation facilites to prove this one.
For instance look at the Old Natatorium.
The Natatorium was alright and if it had been properly maintained and people - the Y (FYI - the Y paid zero rent for decades there although being a major user) - actually paid their fair share to help maintain it then it could have remained a jewel for this city.
Now it is in many ways out lived its necessity due to neglect.
But here we have the very people that did not pay to raise their baby wanting others to pay to fix up that their financial neglect and avarice allowed to deterioate in the first place.

Take a look at the new pool and how dirty it often is. Nice facility but does the city have and actually allocate enough money to look after it?
What about the Kinsmen? It has their name on it and they really pushed for the location but do they now give anything to maintain the facility?

Or what about Wakamow. It was certainly looking fairly run-down for more than a few years when the maintenance budget was cut.

Perhaps when it comes to so many people's babies in this city we need to start think about making the parents to pay for their kids and force groups that push for these facilities to pay support to raise their "kids" instead of making others pay for their progenies. But alas we allow these "deadbeat" parents to keep reproducing their illegitimate spawn of facility after facility and call it all progress.

Perhaps we need to define progess as also including being responsible for your raising and providing for your own kids and not asking others to foot the bill.

One thing I can say for Tolmie is that although I DO NOT agree with his vision and I see it motivated to assist his pet project - the Multiplex - I will have to give him credit for at least putting it out there.
I thought about the entire timing of his proposal and initially thought it foolhardy, but maybe it was best to put it out there so early before the election as a lot of complaints about it are going to diminish before the upcoming election.
The thing is, if he is re-elected (I know for sure he is runing next time) will he see this as a green light to push this issue even if it is something that voters do not want to see???
