Would you be so kind as to elaborate on this. Sorry but I can`t see myself ever giving one red cent to TH to try and make sense of what you are trying to say.

Just as a note of interest for those not wanting to give even one red cent to the T-H, Using the public library's Library Press Display, you can now read the complete version of the T-H (and over 1700 other newspapers from around the world) for free the morning it is released with just a current public library card. http://ezproxy.palliser.lib.sk.ca/login?url=http://library.pressdisplay.com

@ jty-was trying to be subtle about obnoxious frequent "letters to the editor" writer (to Times-herald)....her motto is spend, spend, spend. Lives in one of the ladies apartment complexes on Fairford-and when heard at public gatherings, says "why should we care about tax increases?" Am presuming subsidized or rent-controlled building.Sorry to be so cryptic-needed more coffee!

Gotta love social housing and how the lack of ever paying property taxes makes a person brave.....

You do raise a good question and that is does the city assess a levy on the apartments and houses owned by Moose Jaw Housing and if so who pays it???

I live in a Sask Housing Co-op. We have been paying the hospital levy. Our co-op offers subsidy to those who need it. Sask Housing Corp. determines our rent annually, by taking the average of the highest and lowest paid rents in the City. We have 40 living units in our complex the levy cost is divided amongst the forty units and this cost is factored on top of the rent, once it is determined. We are protected by a policy which prohibits annual rent increases over 2%. Rest assurred our facility pays the full levy but because we are a co-op some members will pay less.

Still-hardly seems fair that you pay 1/40 of levy, and many seniors who have similar incomes but own a house have to pay 100 %.

The levy is applied to every unit of an apartment building or co-op complex. In jackmerlin's case, the $40 levy would be applied to each of the 40 units in the complex. However they choose to divvy up that cost, the full amount would be paid.

So what you are saying is that they assess their hospital levy in a progressive manner??? Those who earn more pay more and those that earn less, pay less?
