The big thing I am hearing on the street is that there is a major flip flop happening on this issue.
The board is taking a lot of heat on this issue and many people are openly critical of the moves made by the MOB in regards to this operating subsidy surplus money.
Take a very close look as to what Councilor Coleman is quoted as saying in the past that they would know if there was going to be a surplus when the auditted statement came out to now stating there is going to be a surplus.
The disposition of the surplus is to be decided upon by council - which could very well mean a reserve fund for the Multi-Plex - but this time it could be administered directly by council and not simply put in an account to be spent at the MOBs discretion.
The surplus could also be directed to other priorities such as the city's share of the new hospital. With the tax increases that Councilors Swanson and Luhning have been successfully (in the public's mind) and effectively attributing to the Multi-Plex capital and operational costs there are many in town angry about it. If council listens to this anger we could well see a lot less smirks and rolling eyes from the Multi-Plex's inner circle whenever this issue is mentioned by their critics on council.
All that it takes is to get the wrong person p'oed and asking questions to get the ball rolling...
