Here's the thing with this. The Gov't of SK and our parrot media (printing news releases without so much as a rewrite) have been saying how rosey things are in SK.

Sooner or later someone says "I'm working much harder for much less than that group over there."

Every month lately you've been seeing in the news about how SK population is up, building permits are up, cost of owning a home is up, but most imporatant, SK workers are consistently bringing home more money each month than ever before.

I can see where they are coming from. Everything is good in SK and everyone else keeps earning more money (according to Gov't and the blue sky crowd), but why aren't I earning any more? Then the "me too" crowd kicks in and becomes vocal. Bet you wished you had a union to negotiate for you too.

With gold, silver, oil, coffee, transportation, groceries and paper products all worth considerably more their claim may be valid. And the teachers won't be the last to ask for more too.
Irresponsible news writers present only 1 side of a story.
The real Multiplex business plan is to suckle mama's teet until it runs dry, or she learns that the child is really 72 years old and needs to be booted out on their own.

It’s called a union, it has nothing to do with individual work ethics, increased qualifications, increased responsibilities, it`s just a union! Unions and the NDP arm in arm social extremism, one can`t live without the other, just ask Jack!
Hopefully this Wall govt will have some backbone and say no to this ridiculous raise, but I have my doubts with an election around the corner.

"...election around the corner.." is the operative phrase. This wage increase demand is a well-crafted, well-timed tactic by the "arm-in-arm" NDP/Teachers' Union to discredit the Wall government during this election year. The demand IS ridiculous and they know it, but they will throw anything in hopes something sticks.
We may not be telling the whole story but the story we're telling is telling...

I agree Al. With rising costs of living and the provincial government saying how great things are for the provincial treasury is it really surprising that the teachers would not try for the gold ring?
It is called share the wealth.

Share the wealth is great if it applies to all people, but it seems that the ones who benefit the most from "all this new wealth" are the Public Section Unions! What about all the other average workers and pensioners who consider themselves fortunate if they see an increase that matches the annual CPI in this bountiful economy!! And unfortunately it's the private sector, average worker, that really creates the wealth to pay the government so these Unions can have their big annual raises! These increases are not sustainable or fair to the taxpayer and this is a good time to stop it!!

I am not saying I agree with it - the teacher's seeking a 12 % raise - but even kids know the best time to ask Grandpa for cash is when there is a lot of change making noise in his pockets.
The teachers have hit at a good time for them when the cookie jar seems to be more than half full so to speak.
One thing I do know is that if they were to take full job action and strike right now there would be a lot of very angry parents and the teachers would lose a lot of public support. I would not want to be the poor teacher facing the tsunami like backlash from angry moms and dads scrambling for child care and students worrying about exams and their futures.

Why should parents be angry at the teachers? They could then teach your children wrong as 'their backlash'!! The parents should be angry at the government for giving into SGEU, SUN and all the other gov't agencies unions who have received higher % increases than they are offering the teachers! Of course many of these parents are the very same ones who received those increases aren't they!

Good points.

I spoke to someone that works at the hospital today and they told me that they are looking for a very big raise because the nurses received nearly 40 percent. Their attitude is that if the nurses got that much then they should also - as part of the health care team - get the same.
It goes on and on and on.

Very Professional - they got it so I want it too!! More like a bunch of kids that don't care who pays the bill - me too!

Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional! They didn't subscribe to the option - Lol!
