ELECTION ISSUE - SIAST PARKING

ELECTION ISSUE - SIAST PARKING

Postby truth defender » Thu Sep 24, 2009 10:33 am

I think that this is one issue that has become a great concern for many people resident in this area and that is the abominadable parking situation we have here adjacent SIAST.
Moose Jaw, as far as I know, is the only city in all of Saskatchewan that does not have parking restrictions adjacent a "major" adult education facility and I think that it is high time that council stepe up to the plate and does something about it.
Why should I lose out on higher property values - about $8,000 compared to a similar home in a different neighbourhood - simply so that (and I will cut to the chase) a bunch of lazy "adults" don't have to walk an extra 100 metres to their own free parking area????
Why should I get NO PROPERTY TAX RELIEF compared to other areas despite having well over 200 cars cruise in front of my house and block the street????
Why doesn't the city do something about this and maybe encourage additional ridership as well as additional funds coming into our highly under utilized and heavily subsidized city transit system????
Is there anyone out there who is willing to stand up and at least say something about this issue instead of simply saying we are "looking at" the issue. Come on people do you really have to study this stuff forever????
True these kids bring in money to the city, but others who live in the neighnbourhood should not have to have to put up with this kind of crap.
If this was a business - such as the mall - they would insist that they provide parking for their customers, why can SIAST expand and put more pressure on the resident homeowners of this area????
Come on potential city councillors/mayor lets get down to it and fix this problem.
Thank you
A battle is not yet lost, while there is one man which fights for it...

I was thinking about the same issue when I took my son to the Kinsmen. Why isn't there a parkade in that (for lack of a better word) vacant area that is sometimes populated by SIAST students? And it can be accessible by anyone who needs parking. Lord only knows when there's a soccer game or tournament going on that parking is pretty much non existant in that area. I'm not saying parkades are the answer or solution, but perhaps if we had parkades located throughout the city, then when it comes time to use the multiplex, we can have people bussed from the parkades to the new arena for whatever event.

Just a thought.
