Oh Al, I don't mean to upset you, but I was just watching the tape of the Peacock All Candidates forum and thought I better transcribe this part of her speech for you to see.
Now, I'm not going to tell you that I'm honest, but I'm gonna tell a story that's going to prove that to you, cause I'm stickin' my neck out on the line here. I've had many, many people ask me, "Heather, what do you think about the multiplex." I'm gonna tell ya. I am a multiplex supporter, and I always have been. {applause} I am not going to apologize for that, and I'm not going to apologize for this - I actually like the location. Yes, the new council is going to have their work cut out for them facing the parking issue. But it's not an insurmountable challenge {smug look}. We'll have to be innovative, and perhaps a little hard nosed, but there will be solutions. The multiplex is a "done deal" {forces hand to the podium} and the new council will need to work together to make sure it is completed properly on all accounts.
Then she goes on to talk about respect on council with this
If you, the citizens of Moose Jaw, can find a way to elect a city council of 7 people who can work together as a team - any issue that comes through council chambers will be dealt with effectively and efficiently.
The whole team analogy is probably overused these days, but that's because it works. We've all heard there's no "I" in team, it's kind of cheesy but it's true. Any team that is built around just 1 or 2 superstars is doomed to fail. But a team that is built around players that can learn to trust one another and work together through the good and the bad will find success....
I learned a very valuable lesson about what it means to be a real team player from a young hockey player last winter. He was on a team that wasn't having much success. I also knew that he had a very strong teammate who wasn't his best friend - if you know what I mean. One day, I heard a fan comment to him that if the team just got rid of the other player, the team would be better off. There was no one else around so this hockey player could have said whatever he wanted, but his answer was "he's a great player and we really need him." That's the way Moose Jaw city council needs to operate - with respect and team conscience.
It seems to me she is running a big portion of her campaign on the multiplex, having council operate as a team, and hockey. At least that's what I've heard the most from her.
