Looking back on what was accomplished and what wasn't, he's feels our current council is seen as a laughing stock. Les Gray, the latest to enter the race for a seat on council in the upcoming election says our elected officials left a lot to be desired.
Check.
"You have to leave your ego at home and do things for the total community and I didn't see that. I think they went backwards rather than forward with the exception of the Multiplex."
Strike #1.
What?! Went backwards WITH THE EXCEPTION of the multiplex? Are you telling me the multiplex went absolutely right and was the only thing that "went forward" in the last 3 years? Tell that to the people who have been sitting on committees since 1999 trying to get the plex built. The multiplex is the prime reason our council was seen as a laughing stock. I suggest it is Gray who is backwards.
The 70 year old feels there's a number of issues that haven't been resolved.
70? Strike 2. Nothing wrong with 70. I'm considered over the hill too. But it isn't a selling point for a candidate.
Gray, a retired psychiatric nurse has served on the local health and housing authority boards.
Anyone remember the last nurse we had on council who was going to fix up the hospital but in the end wound up voting against it a couple times? The milk has been soured.
He considers himself a voice for seniors and says he'll work on issues that matter to them as well as the rest of the community.
I'm for a voice for seniors. Problem is who is the voice of the working families? Single moms? The disabled? The young? Regina Sagal-Hendry? She seems to want to do everything for the children and grandchildren, right from tearing down River Street to not pulling logs at the dam in Wakamow. It is all for the children.
"The roads and sidewalks in the winter time are a great priority, the bus system should be revamped to accommodate residents in the evenings, on Sundays and holidays so they can get where they want to go."
Sounds like more spending to me and we were told from Administration last year that all funds are tied up in the multiplex and we won't be able to add further spending on things like roads and sidewalks unless we increase taxes. Sounds to me like he is advocating increasing spending to run some empty buses around town on cold winter nights when people would prefer to stay home.
Still, only 2 strikes, one step above many others.
