what if - play along online

Postby Placid » Wed Dec 21, 2011 1:05 pm

here's a fun idea for a game. someone make up a 'what if' situation and then everyone gets to chime in with how they think individual councillors might respond. i'll get us started.

what if the water line from buffalo pound broke and moose jaw was completely out of water.

coleman: 'we need to undertake a detailed report and review it at the next meeting in two weeks'

tolmie: 'we may be out of water but the lead in the pipes has to be worth something'

Placid this is ridiculous. You are creating a thread where you and your caver buddies offer up negative scenarious that won't make any sense in the real world.

Believe it or not you cavers... most people think that Moose Jaw is is a nice, good, super place to live, or be from or move to.

I'll bet that sledge is one of the first to offer up some stupid blurp about how dumb the people in Moose Jaw are to have voted in council, The MultiPlex will be a hot topic of course.

Honestly.... you cavers feed off yourselves !

Big thing is I speak to a lot of people in this city and the problems out there are real.

Lets take a good look at the reality.
The City has about $1 million for road repairs and renewal budgetted and available.
Out of that they are going to be spending about 55 percent on Main Street - the remainder has to repair, refurbish and upgrade the rest of the city. How far do you think that that money is going to go????

Council wisely began a levy years ago to help to pay for our share of the project.
Now we are hearing that if other revenue sources are not found that there is going to have to be a tripling of the levy.
For many people in older homes - especially lower income people and seniors - increasing that levy that much amounts to a 10 percent tax increase.
For people in the larger and more affluent areas where taxes are already high it might only be 4 percent.
Both are bad, but for many seniors just struggling to make ends meet that type of tax increase is well just unacceptable and with our lower incomes in this city very unfair to those less fortunate that are just struggling everyday to get by and remain in their own homes.

My big thinking when it comes to this What If thing is this : What if City council said NO to the MultiPlex and said we are reducing your request by $400,000 and using that money foir other things???? We could cut the proposed tax increase, add the funds to the City's portion for the new hospital, double the primary core road rehabilitation or even use the money to help pay down the Multi-Plex debt financing for this year.

Thanks TD... Yes there are real issues out there. People bring a lot of discussions here, some are good some are bad, some are supported by numbers some not, some are opinion some are just plain vindictive, some are wrong some may be right, some are real some are perceived and fantasy.

But if you look at a quote from Placid's post below.... Please tell me where it fits in.

If the city said no to the multiplex, then there would not be any Multi-Plex debt financing :P

Tolmie is seen by a lot of people in this city as being none too bright and he has lost touch with the reality around him. And that is not just from people on this board either I have heard it more than once while out having coffee around town.
In reality he has done little independently - spoken very little his own thoughts - and just been out there to parrot what other certain councillors say.

The big thing is that the city is looking at a lot of "what ifs" right now.
The money that the city has to operate on is very limited.
The $400,000 or about 33 percent of their operating subsidy that they managed to bank last year is for many a disgrace.
This board came to council last year and said they needed this much money "to operate" and then suddenly they have this windfall.
I ask, was it due to good management or did the MOB pull one over on us???
How many organizations out there do you know that put out requests to the city for assistance and then use a large portion of that money to create a redserve fund with zero oversight from council?

Doc, I started this over several times; stupidity drives me nuts...

The water main from Buffalo Pound will never run out of water? Have you never heard of disaster readiness?
Please provide examples where you think "cavers" are conjuring up negative scenarios.

There; I was nice.
