Health care not healthy for all of us...

Postby BadInTheJaw » Thu Feb 09, 2012 8:57 pm

It seems in the infinite wisdom of those who have the say, that an 80 year old woman who has stage 4 cancer and cannot dress or care for herself – Is not in need of long term care. The fact that our health system is bleeding her small savings does not enter in as well. Thanks once more to the great Saskatchewan health care system and those who run it.

Sorry to hear about this Bad. There are options out there available under compassionate care provisions of EI, but that always does not work for all.
This is the big hidden tragedy out there and that for people needing help as they grow older it may not be there.

yet we close care facilities for the elderly and turn them into detox centres. :(

And a lot of hospital beds are filled by people waiting for a long term bed....number of them cut a few years ago despite knowing that the population is aging.Guess corners had to be cut to pay for new management!

And they also cut back on homecare services so that people that maybe could stay in their own homes with family help cannot...

New management or existing management pay increases?
According to http://www.fhhr.ca/Policies/Annual%20Re ... 0_2011.pdf there has been some very nice increases in salaries!

And if you take note-these are only SENIOR management staff. 2 years ago there were another 250 middle management & consultants!

So true. With a rapid growth of elderly people we can't keep hiding from the fact that this is something important.

Got to be wondering why we need so many nurses to do the work of someone more suited to administration for less money. There are a lot of things that have made me wonder in the past several months as I watched Mom go in and out of hospital. It's strange to me how things are managed or mismanaged. Education cuts, health cute, cultural programs cut. In the end there is a deep need to have an increase in taxation. No one want's to see it, but the need is there. Still the party holds the line so as to hold power as long as needed.

People always talk about needing tax increases to fund these social programs, but if you "audit" them closely it seems there are many people in the public sector getting rich on the "backs" of taxpayers!! Just look at the salaries of senior managers printed above, and how many of them would be able to transition into the private sector and make the same money given real competition. Then there all the Unionized employees that compete with no one; get big salaries, regular pay raises, step (experience) raises, 2X and 3x pay for overtime, exceptional built in benefits, security and good pensions! Not many jobs in the private sector can claim to be funded as comfortably!! There used to be a time when these jobs were filled by people who truly believed in "Service to the Public" - a calling - now many people are seeking these professions simply because it's much more difficult to get the same benefits in the private sector and there is little to no job security! Just look around the world at what is happening with Public Debt and Public pensions and one can easily see that governments need to start reigning in the the Salary, Benefits and Pensions given to Public employees as they are out of touch with, not just the private sector, but what the taxpayer can afford/tolerate! It should not be about tax increases to support these programs, it should be more about providing these services with much more fiscal reality and efficacy!!! Tax increases may need to come regardless, but let's get some fiscal reality and efficiency into the system first!!
