Poor Lighting at the arena?

Postby art » Sat Dec 10, 2011 8:25 am

Was flipping through the channels last night and came across the MJ Warriors vs Regina Pats game on Shaw. My eyes directly went to center ice where it appeared the warrior logo had a large piece missing from it. As I watched the game a little while longer I noticed its from poor lighting coming from the underside of the score clock.

As I continued in my channel flipping, I came across the Vancouver Giants/Portland Winter hawks game on Sportsnet. Low and behold, you could see their center ice logo and advertising perfectly. Now, if we are actually going after larger events and "grandiose" hockey attractions.....I would think that major sponsors would want to be assured their on-ice advertising purchase would be visible to the viewers at home.

Why aren't these questions being asked by our "media"? Dawn's blog pointed out the beams not being engineered to hold the adequate weight of lighting bars and equipment. Now, you have terrible lighting glares covering the ice for televised games. What's next?

They spent enough money on this multimess and continue to do so each and every day. You don`t like what you can`t see go complain to shaw about their inappropriate cameras where the problem lies.

This is part of the design. It is a feature they won't mention for 30-40 years which, at that time, they will trot out in the media as "poor lighting" and will use it as an excuse to build another rink. Much like the Civic Centre did, at that time they'll complain that the reason the Multiplex was never able to host concerts is that it wasn't engineered to do so, and to remain attractive to future residents they need to bring in the big acts that the Multiplex never could.

Of course there will be a referendum and 60% of the residents will agree, having forgotten that it will be the third time these lame excuses were used, and probably the third time that the execution didn't meet the 3 foot deep pile of crap it originated from.
Irresponsible news writers present only 1 side of a story.
The real Multiplex business plan is to suckle mama's teet until it runs dry, or she learns that the child is really 72 years old and needs to be booted out on their own.

I was at the game last night and the lighting was perfectly fine.

I watched it on Shaw Direct for about 20 minutes and thought the same thing. I am thinking it was a camera issue because the close up cams were good but the one camera was dark and almost out of focus. The next thing people will complain about is all the empty seats. Seemed to be alot of vacant seats around the ice.

I was sitting in one of the empty seats with a ticket I got from the Co-op (they give them out like four days old bread) and the lighting was fine. Next you negative nellies will want to complain about the exorbitantly priced food and drink!

"Negative Nellies"! What a world, heaven forbid anyone provide constructive feedback or criticism on anything anymore lest they feel the wrath of being labeled negative!! Yes, everything is wonderful in the world of the Blue Sky" Pollyanna's no one is allowed to speak plainly!! Little wonder we have a hard time getting the "real" truth about anything in todays society!

Come on you cavers... this has got to make you laugh, even giggle a little bit !!

Just picture it... Fat man, beer belly sitting in his lazy boy recliner, with a rum and coke in one hand and the TV remote in the other, watching a hockey game that is occurring just a few blocks away, complaining about parking, and that the new multiplex is not good enough, and that we will never be able to have a Rolling Stones concert because Dawn Luhning said the beams will not support it.

Negative nellies at its best.....

Come on..... ya got to laugh.

I don't know about the lighting, the cameras nor the like, but I can tell you that the reaction outside of the city when you tell them about Moose Jaw studying a purported beam probelm and it is none to nice. The most common response is "What a bunch of F***** idiots", or "that sounds like Moose Jaw."
If the engineering turns out to be bad I can just see the reaction out there and it will be a major black stain on this city.
That is not being negative, that is being a realist.

I wouldn't want to be to be the one taking blame for that one.

We have already hosted one huge concert in the facility and everything seemed to go off without a problem. Last concert I attended the kids all had their lighters lite the whole concert so maybe if lighting becames a issue we could pass out lighters or flashlights before the concert!
