grants

Did anyone else get a chuckle from the list of "grants" that the Parks & Rec dept at City Hall allocated?

The fieldhouse managed to swipe up a couple. But aren't they already subsidized? and now they can "double dip" into some city grants? I find it ridiculous.

and.... on Sask jobs:

CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

Employer Name: Mosaic Place & MJ Field House
Wage/Salary Info: $15.77 - $18.92/hr

WOW...What a lovely wage to sit at the front desk and greet customers... Is this the going market rate? I think a comparable position would be something like at YMCA gyms...do they start at $15.77/hour??

No wonder they need to be subsidized by the City of Moose Jaw having such wonderfully high wages. Gotta love the MOB to set these rates.

That does seem like a high wage for sure, but aren't all of the jobs down there unionized?
One thing I did notice was that in a recent newsletter one of the staff was featured and they spoke about how they were setting down roots here and building a new home on an acreage.

This issue came up last year as well. I think Councilor Luhning really spoke out against it.
I noticed the grants there as well this year.
I know for one of them, toddlers turf time last year one parent said they just wanted to keep their rates affordable. That led me to make the observation then that the facilities were not only too expensive for the city but the more well off families as well.
Personally though I would have liked to see them exempt and put the money into expanding the neighbourhood playground programs that are free and accessible to all children in the city and not just a select few.
I still hold that view especially since the playground program does not last as long as it should into August.

Get use to it, this white elephant/multimess will be sucking money from anywhere and everywhere it can for many, many years to come. Many people were aware of this before it was built, yet city administration with the help of the local media managed to falsely discredit such information, now the local taxpayer`s reliance on other services from the city will suffer, either through dwindling services or increases in taxes or levies to try and maintain those services that are now being short changed. Remember this when ever you run into any of the fab five or local media personnel on the street and be sure to thank them for misleading everyone and putting the city in this situation.

Right on "jty", citizens should never forget what a massive disservice these people did to the community just for a Hockey Rink!!

Too bad we didn`t end up with just a hockey rink, we would be a lot better off. Reminds me of the tree swing!
