Was The Civic Centre "Beloved" As Eby Stated?

Postby Al » Thu Feb 10, 2011 1:46 pm

Recently an observation was made in another thread about Heather Eby's application to Kraft's Hockeyville contest.

Heather Eby wrote:"When it was determined that the time had come for a new arena to be built and replace the beloved Civic Centre"

Interesting way to put it.

Does anyone believe this? I know Heather was too busy with Hockey to follow the Multiplex debates when they were going on, and didn't catch up until after she decided to run for Council, but by now she has to know the score.

Does anyone really believe "the time had come for a new arena to be built?"

And, does anyone really believe the Civic Centre was "beloved" by the way we saw her treated in the media prior to the plebiscite?

Comments.

The real Multiplex business plan is to suckle mama's teet until it runs dry, or she learns that the child is really 72 years old and needs to be booted out on their own.

Wow... those poll questions are just loaded to your anti-plex stance... ready to pounce on anyone who states how they voted. I will not vote on this poll... but I'm sure some NIMBY buddies will...

You should add a button that says "I didn't love it, but I don't think that it needed replacement".

Yes, you could argue for a renovation, but either way the arena as it stood was no longer suitable for the current and future useage.

Absolutely. Pointing out the shortcomings due to modern standards and requirements does not mean the building was not loved. It was/is a great place to watch a game, with an atmosphere that will be hard to duplicate. Does that mean it should have lived on?

I guess it's kind of like an old car. I love the muscle cars of the 60's and 70's. Can't beat the sound or the rush of driving one. That said, your not as safe in an accident, they handle terribly, and, in some experts opinions, are harder on the enviornment. Sure you can drive it to work or to the beach, but if you want to run it as a cab or use it in a rental fleet your out of luck. Modern technology has made that car into a collectible with limited use. Heck, you can't even take your young children for a ride cause a car seat won't strap in properly.

BTW, I am by no means justifying the contest ap. The spirit of that contest is for the smaller communities to improve their meager facilities, not cities building brand new rinks.

Good for you taking a stand like that.

Would you prefer I just changed the options to "yes" and "no"? Would that limit your constant skepticism on the board? Would that make you doubt my motives a little less?

Oh jay, by the way, when I said "comments" I thought it was implied that meant intelligent, well thought out comments and historial observations about the topic of the poll. Not accusations about motives for posting the poll.

On second thought, I'm going to leave those poll options as they are because it appears some people need just a little bit more explanation, even if their conclusion is jaded by their own bias :)

If you can't contribute to the discussion in a meaningful way then don't bother logging on anymore. Either comment on the topic or go back to the Rider's forum and insult them some more. You know, as everyone keeps saying here - where's the facts, all I see are petty arguments.

Read back one post Al, I was trying. Sorry if my attempt at humour offended you. Can I ask, with all due respect, what the point of this thread is, because it looks like another trolling post to get a fight going about the MPX. There is already a discussion on the Hockeyville application, so why start a new thread?
