Knock off hockey cards

Postby arron » Thu Dec 08, 2011 12:25 am

I have recently bought cards that may be Chinese knockoffs.

Is there anyone out there who is an "expert" in this field who could take a look at them for me? They sure look real.

Is the text in Chinese? That would be an indication.

But seriously, I used to collect hockey cards but it's been so long.. I'm not sure if I could spot a fake.

If the hockey players are Chinese that may be another indication.

Are they sponsored by Over Seas or Landscape Restaurant? That may be another indication.

Sigh.

The cards in question are Upper Deck, O-Pee-Che and Pinnacle among others. They are of National Hockey League (NHL) ice hockey players. The NHL is a collection of 30 teams in Canada and the United States of America. Cities with NHL teams include Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, New York (two teams), Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Boston, Sunrise, Tampa Bay, Washington, Newark, Raleigh, Nashville, Los Angeles, Denver, Anaheim, Columbus, Dallas, San Jose, St. Louis, Detroit, Phoenix, Chicago and Saint Paul. Cards of NHL ice hockey players have been made for more than 50 years.

No Chinese symbols or sponsors.

Were they in a pack or loose? Where did you get them? Check for hologram logos on the cards, clean printing, spelling errors. Unless they were high dollar cards they probably are legit, but that doesn't mean they are worth anything. I haven't collected for a few years but the fake cards were usually limited to Gretzky rookies and the like. Easy to fake. New cards are hardly worth anything, the hi dollar cards are all limited release and definately harder to fake. Post or PM me some pics.

Are the cards printed on thin flimsy cardboard?

Thanks speede5. I will post some of them on here soon. Holograms on the newer ones looks OK (compared to some I know are real). Oh, and some of the newer cards do have value... card companies have learned from the 90 and 91 years about overproduction and now limit production to create more value in their products.

Hmmm - How about this:

2 Eby's, one Tolmie and a Dell-Findlay for a Sagal-Hendry.
