IN THE 21ST CENTURY THERE ARE STILL LEAD WATER MAINS IN 10% OF MOOSE JAW HOMES. I thought Canada was a first world country. I guess there are pockets of 3rd world country-like zones... Moose Jaw is one of them.
Water lines almost 100 years old. Old sewer lines that are collapsed and the City of Moose vacuuming up waste from broken sewers on a daily basis... sounds pretty third world to me.

So Jay45, you are obviously young... you have zero insight into the important things in life.

You are more than wrong there... and you are out to lunch on infrastructure... it was a problem 50 yrs ago(ironically when the CC was built, I bet the cavers were screaming about cost then too).... long before the multiplex existed, and will long after... it will be an ongoing expense 100 yrs from now... especially for a small city like Moose Jaw and other cities... you make it sound like this problem is unique to the city.... every other urban center in this country has the same infrastructure problems... but there only so much federal and provincial dollars for those projects.. maybe you should address your beefs to Mr. Harper and Mr. Wall first... seeing as how there is such a love-in for Mr. Wall around these parts, you should ask him how much he is willing to give the city for installing new water lines.... I bet you won't like Mr. Wall's answer...

The City would not have these problems if our Political leaders would annually put appropriate amounts of tax dollars into core infrastructure rather than their pet, pretty, I want, projects!! If a person needs a new roof they don't run to their boss wanting more money, they budget accordingly!! The City should do the same, rather than miss-spending and then coming back to the taxpayer and just "taking" more money! The money that built the Multi-mess, plus the revenue sharing dollars that have since gone into it, could have done wonders for Moose Jaw core infrastructure

The fact is no matter how much this gets derailed into another MP debate, the fact remains that the NHL won't be coming to MJ anytime soon... nor to any other city that is comparable in size in Canada (30-60K)... and the proof is in how many games in the cities that I have mentioned have hosted NHL games... unless team like the Oilers, Flames or Jets decide to play various home exhibition games in these places, one is going have to travel to Regina or Saskatoon or another larger city to see those types of games...

I know having an NHL team come to Moose Jaw is only a one-time event, but surely the spin-offs to downtown businesses has to be worth the hardship and millions in annual operating costs, loan payments and interest it costs the taxpayers. Kudos to you, City of Moose Jaw and your new GM, you both deserve credit for this one!

How many games do you think places like Chilliwack, Red Deer, Medicine Hat, Prince Albert, Prince George and Brandon have hosted?... be interesting to hear the results...

Don't quote me on this, but didn't Calagary and Edmonton have at least one pre-season game there years back???
I do know for a fact that the Canadian national team - when they had players like Doug Wickenheiser and Andy Moog on it - played the Czechoslovakia national team (before the fall of the Iron Curtain) in Rosetown.

I have been hearing rumours from friends in Brandon that they are gunning for a game there possibly in 2013.

that's right because we can look at other centres and see what they are doing and we'll get a good idea of what is possible.

now why didn't you look at chilliwack, st. albert and st. john's during the multiplex referendums when they were reporting gigantic deficits and unprecedented taxpayer subsidies while hosting only minimal concerts a year which also occurred at a loss. oh but we were told moose jaw is so much different than those places and we could succeed where they couldn't. keep an open mind, anything is possible. if you build it they will come.

nice consistency you got there.

Here we go again... its not about how MJ is different or anything to do with MP debate... its about what the NHL does... and nuetral site games in smaller centres like ours just is not done... the only time they do that is with the Hockeyville contest... and that is more of a CBC contest than anything else, in conjuction with the NHL... I wasn't the one who was all gung-ho about having an NHL exhibition game here... if it happens, it happens... but I won't hold my breath, or for that matter waste it on the people who say- not in my backyard...

One of the big things I did notice was that these neutral site pre-season games all seem to be at the same place the past couple of years.
Some of it has to be the league seeing opportunities for potential future expansion (London, Ontario) whereas others can easily be seen as a way to head of the KHL while others just seem to be well attended and I would guess a guarantee offered to host these games.
I see before the Jets returned to Winnipeg they did do at least one exhibition game there first.
I also see Quebec City that I would also say donbe to guage interest in a possible return to the league.
