Dairy Queen

Went to Dairy Queen this evening.

The entire staff on this evening is comprised of visible minorities, likely newcomers to Canada (as though they couldn't find any locals to work the jobs...).

Staff training was poor as one staffer was very unfamiliar with the proper preparation of a very common ice cream-based menu item, and botched it.

I would highly encourage any student, or anyone looking for a job, to send their application to this business, and if refused an interview, file a human rights complaint because it was fairly obvious, at least to me, that non-visible minorities were not welcome as workers.

I noticed that as well.. that all the staff appears to be immigrants. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I've never had any problems getting what I ordered there. Love the ice cream (or ice milk as they call it)

Since school is back in, they probably don't have the staff. Are you suggesting that visable minorities not be given jobs unless non-visible people get first choice? I can see being upset that your icecream wasn't made right, because the server wasn't trained well enough, but what clued you in that non-visible minorities would not be welcome? By the way who or what is a non visible minority? And how do you recognize them?

I know Suki, he is Japanese - a visible minority.

In the evening? I highly doubt this. And why was every last employee obviously "fresh off the boat"? I know the demographics of Moose Jaw are changing, but changing that severely? I doubt it.

I don't know if this particular restaurant 'imported' the workers, but certainly, there are plenty of workers in Moose Jaw, who, for a correct amount of money, could have been induced to do the jobs. I don't believe for a moment that, last year, nearly all the staff working at the place would be white young people (ie: Moose Jaw's demographic), and today, its all philllipinos, without some sort of racially motivated hiring.

Any concession job is an unappreciated job...the fault does not lie with the staff who couldn't prepare the ice cream the right way...it is the fault of whoever trained them.
I've never heard of any fast food place here hiring one ethnic group over another...however...when immigrants come here they do need some work, I would think that multiculture and some business are working together to make it easier for the new people to find work.
If you felt frustrated by the ice cream not being prepared as you wanted it...think of the frustration of the person who was doing their best to do this the 'right' way and not knowing if what they were doing was correct or not.

Are you speaking about immigrants or are you confusing them with "temporary foreign workers" - people that come here to work on a work visa because we have a "labour shortage."
There is a great difference in their status here.

I do not think so, but if I am correct there was a tax credit - at least awhile back - for businesses to hire younger workers and give them a chance.
