Attawapiskat vs Moose Jaw

Attawapiskat has infrastructure problems.

Moose Jaw has infrastructure problems.

Government gave money to Attawapiskat.

Government gave money to Moose Jaw.

Attawapiskat ignored their needs and built a rink.

Moose Jaw ignored their needs and built a rink.

Chiefs do not want to open their books.

MOB does not want to reveal their true numbers.

Both are lead by over paid leaders with a sense of entitlement, while the people suffer.

I guess the biggest difference is that the government will undoubtedly bail Attawapiskat out, while the Moose Jaw taxpayer will have to bail Moose Jaw out.

But did Moose Jaw get $90,000,000.00 as did Attawaspikat ? and absolutely nothing to show for it ? 90 million divided by @ 30,000 Jawburgers could tide the city over nicely. Everyone is guilty in this 3 stooges situation, The Government, the reserve, and Canadians allowing this type of idiocy ever to happen. who says the system should be changed? this proves only one aspect of Government bungling that must be stopped and revised, a better sysytem has to be developed.

Although I tend to agree with you on this one, I think in all fairness wasn't the money transferred to this reserve was also used for healthcare, social service payments (plus related wages), education and utilities such as electricity, sewer and water as well as heating for public buildings. If true shouldn't we also factor in what Moose Jaw receives from senior level of governments for these as well?
Then a person could say who the worst bunglers are.
Personally I feel both systems need changes.

And how many times have Native Leaders been found "Squandering" large amounts of their citizens (taxpayers) money away on self-serving frivolous benefits?? Sounds just like many other levels of government and it mostly comes down to personal GREED rather than responsible, ethical leadership!!

The population of Attawapiskat is @ 1920 natives, 1/3 of the population is under 19, 3/4 under the age of 35, in 2009 they installed H/S internet and cable to all houses, regardless where the money was spent(wasted)- - - $90,000,000.00 is still a lot of coin. Everyone is at fault in this insane situation and this is only ONE reserve, the rest of the world must be wondering what type of country Canada is, I wonder myself. by the way the reserve does have a website, very interesting.

If anyone is interested, here is their link to their website: http://www.attawapiskat.org/

I will play the devil's advocate here...I've been in some of the older homes on some of the reserves here...and what she is saying concerning the homes is an absolute truth. I've been in some homes where the only difference between outdoors and indoors is the lack of wind. But they are cold during the winter months. Too cold to live in, I can't imagine what the cost of the heating is in those homes, I didn't think it prudent for me to ask.
I wonder...how would our esteemed mayor and city council react if a third party were to be ordered to come in and re-organize our books and re-direct the monies? Perhaps that is the answer for Moose Jaw....

Somebody can correct me if I am wrong, but I think that the city's financial affairs were once managed by the province when we went bankrupt due to the Depression and money spent developing Crescent Park.

I believe you are right TD.
